The Performer
The hit of Sydney Festival 2005 with his show Slamming,
special guest on ABC TV’s Sunday Arts program, Organiser of
The State Library’s National Poetry Slam… Miles Merrill is
Australia's spoken-word tour de force. Miles combines elements
of theatre, hip-hop, slam poetry and music, flinging words in a
rapid fire onslaught of versified emotion. His CD What Night
Knows, can be heard on radio stations everywhere and on his
website www.wordtravels.info
Merrill tours internationally to venues as varied as the Sydney
Opera House, off-broadway theatre, galleries, universities and a
wide range of secondary and primary schools.
The Performance
Playing With Poetry features a performance by Miles Merrill using humorous characters,
"wild and witty wordplay" and fun physical theatre. Kids learn about poetry and how to
perform it. They may, for example, turn into alien salespeople wildly gesticulating their
own poems in gibberish or find themselves reciting their verbal magic as a Simpsons
character, footy player, John Howard, TV newscaster, or what ever they can imagine.
Students express their ideas through writing, sound and movement while having a hilarious
hour with Miles. As a bonus Miles can record student poems to play on Sydney's youth arts
and music radio station FBI 94.5
